2008 – First professional file transcoder offering a compliant 2-pass VBR mode
With the availability of KFE 2.0 in 2008, ATEME introduced for the first time a professional 2-pass VBR mode that takes advantage of the content complexity variation to allocate bit-rate only when needed. Unlike consumer oriented implementations of 2-pass VBR, this mode guarantees at all times the compliancy with the maximum bit-rate decodable by the set-top-box. This technology is now used by major operators worldwide to optimize bandwidth in Video-on-Demand and Catch-up TV program distribution.
